Zombies, paradise, survival... a host of the key traits that made the original Dead Island a hit are present and accounted for in Escape Dead Island, but the game gives them a different spin to its predecessor.
Set between the events of the first game and Dead Island 2, Escape throws the player in with a group of shipwrecked youngsters battling against the elements and the undead to survive. Setting up what's to come in Dead Island 2, the game unveils key plot points filling in just how the zombie plague began. Not only that, but the game details protagonist Cliff's seeming march towards insanity...
Where the first game offered an open-world sandbox to play through and a first-person point of view, however, Escape Dead Island is more of a third-person action game. Combat is largely melee-based, though that doesn't mean you won't find yourself engaging in the odd spot of shotgun versus zombie action.
With Cliff's state of mind questionable at best, the developers at Fatshark like to get into players' heads strange happenings that make it difficult to sort the real from the unreal.
Cliff, like Dead Rising hero Frank West, is a photographer. So, alongside the usual collectibles the game offers over 80 unique photo opportunities.
If you're looking for a bit of zombie butchery, look no further.
