Alan Parker directs this prison drama based on the autobiographical novel by Billy Hayes. The film follows Hayes (Brad Davis)'s journey as an American student in 1970's Turkey. While trying to leave the country Hayes is caught smuggling four pounds of hashish and finds himself facing the prospect of several years in a Turkish prison. While his family at home attempt to have him freed, he undergoes hellish experiences in jail.
