Twin brothers Mark and Michael Polish ('Twin Falls Idaho', 'Jackpot') direct this unusual and elegaic magical realist drama - filmed entirely in monochromatic colour - which premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. Set in the mid-1950s, the film is based around Northfork, a small frontier town in Montana that is due to be flooded out by a new reservoir built by a hydro-electric power company. The company has sent six men to evacuate the remaining residents, led by Walter O'Brien (James Woods). Most of the town's inhabitants have already left, but a few stragglers remain, including a priest (Nick Nolte) who is caring for a dying boy (Duel Farnes). The boy's recurring ethereal hallucinations about guardian angels form part of the narrative of this mythical and dreamlike film. The cast also includes Kyle MacLachlan, Claire Forlani and Daryl Hannah.
