Jane Austen's famous comedy of manners and romance starring Colin Firth as Mr Darcy. Adapted by Andrew Davies after his success with the television adaptation of George Elliot's 'Middlemarch', the series was the BBC's flagship drama in the Autumn 1995 schedule. The five daughters of the Bennett family are under increasing pressure to find suitors for marriage, in particular the eldest Elizabeth (Jennifer Ehle), and the arrival of the wealthy Mr Darcy causes quite a stir amongst the sisters.
