An adaptation of the James Clavell novel that focuses on the buccaneering nature of Western merchants who were drawn to China by the wealth of silk, jade and opium. China was an unknown land, closed to the western world until the mid 1800s, when its borders were opened. The story follows the forbidden love and ruthless trade between the east and west.
