Ken Hughes directs this 1950s British drama, an adaptation of his own novel 'High Wray'. Author Mark Kenrick (Alex Nicol) rents a secluded lakeside home with the intention of finding peace and quiet to write his new novel. Instead, he finds himself invited to a busy party on the other side of the lake, where the mild-mannered Beverley Forrest (Sidney James) and his feisty young wife Carol (Hillary Brooke) are the hosts. Mark is helpless to resist the charms of Carol, who makes it abundantly clear that she is willing to cheat on her husband. However, when Carol informs Mark that she wants Beverley out of the picture altogether, events take a more sinister turn...
