For their second FMR release, Rob Hall (saxophones & clarinet) and Chick Lyall (piano) draw from a wide range of sources forging a deeply engag- ing and intimate musical dialogue. New compositions from both musi- cians are interspersed with four freely improvised interludes which stand as a connected suite in their own right. Two non-improvised movements from Hall's Sonata for Clarinet and Pianoare deftly worked into the pro- gramme. This new recording was funded by the Scottish Arts Council and shows this fine duo continuing their musical journey between composition and improvisation, poetic lyricism combined with exploratory jazz soloing.
