With a strong focus on medical-surgical content, this text avoids the repetitive content found in other core nursing texts and emphasizes a comprehensive, contemporary approach to nursing management of the adult patient with a medical-surgical disorder. Content is presented in a format that gives equal attention to nursing management and associated pathophysiology of the disorder. In addition to care of the patient in the traditional medical-surgical setting, the scope of care has been broadened to encompass home care, long-term care, and rehabilitation. Targeted at the AND and BSN levels, its many boxed features and learning aids facilitate student understanding and application of a broad base of medical-surgical nursing care.
The core text presents nursingmanagement of the medical-surgical patient in 12 body system units and two additional units covering pathophysiologic dimensions and adult health nursing and principles of perioperative nursing. Each body system unit begins with a three-part assessment chapter, covering anatomy and physiology, assessment, and laboratory and diagnostic tests. The clinical management chapters include comprehensive discussion of common disorders, with equal coverage of the disease process and management. Nursing management is consistently covered in a student-oriented nursing process format of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning/expected outcomes, implementation, and evaluation/documentation.
Evaluation/Documentation and continuity of care conclude each applicable nursing management section.
