The 1946 session presented here in its entirety showcases the great Miles Davis early in his career. By that time he had already recorded a few sessions with Charlie Parker and was alternatively working with the orchestras of Benny Carter and Billy Eckstine. The group pairs him with tenor saxophonist Gene Ammons and drummer Art Blakey (both of which were members of the Eckstine band in those days), and Charlie Parker's later bassist Tommy Potter. Along with being Miles' only small group date with Ammons, the session represents one of his very few vocal accompaniments, backing singers Earl Coleman (who also recorded with Bird) and Ann Baker (aka Ann Hathaway, she was Eckstine's female vocalist). The complete LP 'Dig', featuring Miles with Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, and again Tommy Potter and Art Blakey, has been added here as a bonus.
