In days of old, when knights were bold, and consoles weren't invented, people did other stuff for entertainment, such as dress up in tin suits and hit each other with sharp, heavy things.

One such guy who thought this was a load of fun was a bloke called King Arthur.

Offering players the opportunity to relive the epic legend of King Arthur and the mystical sword of Excalibur, Legion: The Legend of Excalibur presents a large-scale fantasy adventure for the Playstation 2.

Claiming to be designed more for the console market than that of the PC, it takes the more popular elements of the typical RTS game - such as resource management, control over multiple units and destruction of large bases - and blends them with the accessibility and intensity of your average console title.

In the game, players take direct control of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and command legions of knights in dynamic battlefield environments against the evil forces of Morgan Le Fay.

Eight knights are to be recruited in total, either Swordsman, Archer or Mage, each one individually 'levelled-up' to achieve the greatest strengths and capabilities.

Siege weapons can also be used, laying waste to castles and terrain.

An array of 13 missions feature throughout the proceedings, the completion of all being the ultimate goal, thus restoring Camelot and uniting the Round Table.

Each mission has mandatory primary objectives as well as optional sub-tasks; assistance along the way can be acquired from Merlin, who engages the player throughout, providing background and direction.

For such a renowned legend, it's surprising that there haven't been a greater number of similarly inspired games in the past.

Legion has made good use of the classic fable, delivering an immersive experience that's crammed with all the might and magic that you'd expect.
