Developer Jester Interactive has upgraded everything loved about its predecessors, such as Music 2000, to make use of the PlayStation 2's superior sound and visual processing power.

You don't need musical knowledge, you don't even have to have played a note in your life - but with MTV Music Generator 2 if you've got a tune in your head you can lay it down as a polished and well produced track. All of the PS2's 48 audio channels are made available in MTV Music Generator 2. This doubles the number of channels available in Music 2000 and enables deeper, richer, more satisfying tracks to be created using the familiar song-blocks. Song-blocks contain drumbeats, baselines, melodies, pads, percussion and vocal riffs taken from the enlarged Song-block Library and as before, it's possible to edit and customise each one.

Providing something for everyone, MTV Music Generator 2's Song-block Libraries embrace a wide range of different music styles - there are 8 styles to work with: Pop, House, Hip Hop, Garage, Indie, R&B, Rock and Trance. In addition to the 8 music genre libraries, there are over 9000 component samples including Vocals, Instruments, Percussion, Nature and Soundstage Effects. You can also add real-time generated effects to your track with effects such as echo, chorus, flange and phase. The memory capability is quadrupled which makes using and editing Song-block riffs much easier. Want to hear a preview or incorporate a new riff into your track? You can hear it immediately - there's none of the noticeable disc-access and riff-loading delays, which provides for a more flowing and flexible feel to digital music creation.

The main user interface screen - the track creation workspace - has been rethought from top to bottom, literally. One of the first most obvious evolutions since the original Musics is that the workspace has been flipped 90-degrees and scrolls vertically rather than horizontally so, as you're building your track, the screen scrolls down through the track. The point of scrolling vertically is down to one very simple reason - being a PlayStation 2 title, MTV Music Generator 2 will be viewed on TV screens, a lot of them widescreens. TV screens are wider than they are higher. Scroll a track vertically and you can see a lot more on screen at once than you could if it followed the traditional horizontal approach. The video creation and editing tool is also integrated into the main workspace rather than being a separate utility.

Introduced in Music 2000, the popular multiplayer Jamming mode makes an improved return. Up to 4-players can jam together, creating a track off the cuff in real-time complete with a record facility.
