WWII drama starring Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif. The death of a prostitute in Moscow triggers a manhunt and when the only eye witness maintains that the killer wore the uniform of a German General, Major Grau (Sharif) narrows the suspects down to three high-ranking officers: Tanz (O'Toole), Kahlenberge (Donald Pleasance) and von Seidlitz-Gabler (Charles Gray). By enlisting the services of private investigator Morand (Philippe Noiret), Grau attempts to get to the bottom of the mystery while also dealing with the failing efforts of the Wehrmacht on the front line. The cast also includes Tom Courtenay, Joanna Pettet and Christopher Plummer.
