THE ROAD TO DUNE is a compilation of material celebrating - and adding to - the epic Dune novels. It includes out-takes from the original DUNE by Frank Herbert, correspondence with Frank Herbert relating to the original DUNE; short stories by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson; and SPICE PLANET - a long novella by Brian and Kevin incorporating large chunks of material by Frank Herbert.
Frank Herbert was born in 1920. His colourful and varied career included stints as a radio news commentator and jungle survival instructor. He is best known for creating the world of DUNE, which became the bestselling science fiction novel of all time. It won great acclaim, as well as the Hugo and Nebula awards, establishing Frank Herbert as a master of modern science fiction. He died in 1986. His son, Brian Herbert, has now begun a new series of Dune novels, Prelude to Dune in collaboration with Kevin J. Anderson . The first novel to appear in the new series is House Atreides, published by Hodder & Stoughton.www.dunenovels.com
Unique among SF novels . . . I know nothing comparable to it except The Lord of the Rings.
Arthur C. Clarke on DUNE
'Frank Herbert would surely be delighted and proud of this continuation of his vision.' Dean Koontz
'Those who long to return to the world of desert, spice and sandworms will be amply satisfied.' The Times
'Herbert and Anderson have met the challenge admirably. Within a web of relationships in which no act has simple of predictable consequences, they lay the foundation of the Dune saga . . . A terrific read in its own right . . . Will inspire readers to turn, or return, to its great predecessor.' Publishers Weekly
