When the Bough Breaks

Seven severed children's hands are found in a heavy rainstorm. Small-town sheriff Captain Swaggart (Martin Sheen) is intially unhappy when Audrey MacLeah (Ally Walker), an expert in psychological profiling, is called in to help the investigation. But he is made aware of her worth when she gathers clues from the behaviour of a mute patient in a mental asylum who paints pictures of severed hands on the wall of his cell.
